Why do some people think that the existence of God can only be a work of fantasy?

This really doesn't change the lack of evidence for god....also, modern day atheists aren't exactly like skeptics in the 15th century, as those skeptics were skeptical of an idea never really attempted or accepted while atheists reject an idea that still has widespread acceptance and has had a MUCH longer time to garner evidence in favor of it.
