Can someone explain meiosis and mitosis to me?

I have missed the last two days of school and will most likely be missing tomorrow as well because I not allowed to go to school because im sick and contagious. We just started meiosis and mitosis and I dont have my text book to help me learn. Does anyone know what they are and can explain it? I would really appreciate it!
